Developing interest in the welfare of seniors
The objective of the Auxiliary is “to develop a deep interest in the welfare of senior citizens and to organize and unite the services of supporting individuals and congregations for the physical comfort and spiritual welfare of the members of the PBC family.” The Auxiliary originally focused its membership efforts only on members of church congregations, but now membership reflects strong support by various volunteers, individuals, local residents, staff and other gracious participants.
The Auxiliary generates significant funds from its work. It holds periodic fundraising projects, is heavily engaged in the Peter Becker Community Flower Show, and sponsors the campus Thrift Shop, which has recently raised more than $50,000 each year. All of this service is provided by dedicated male and female volunteers.
Each year the Auxiliary focuses on purchasing or providing resources for several specific projects at Peter Becker Community. The list of accomplishments is far too vast to include here, but a sample of the services and purchases supported by Auxiliary funding includes:
- A Handicapped Accessible Van
- Portable Oxygen Concentrators
- Chapel Chairs
- Flat Screen Televisions for the Health Care Center
- $40,000 Contribution to the Benevolent Fund
